General Burke heads up the NABMW Executive Board

GENERAL(RET) BURKE HEADS UP

 THE NABMW EXECUTIVE BOARD

The NABMW Executive Board met in Kansas City, Missouri  during 2-6 March 2005. Along with the installation of new officers, the Executive Board convened many workshops to discuss and work on various issues. The Exec Board also had the opportunity to tour several hotels the 2006 Reunion Team scheduled for possible use for the 2006 Reunion.  We thank Ruby Robinson and Brenda Jennings for their hard work in obtaining the meeting site.  We also thank Gloria Wortham and Naomi Bundley for traveling the long distance to attend the last two Exec Board meetings, for bringing us food for lunch, providing the board with valuable input and for being part of the 2006 Reunion Team.

The Executive Board meeting was a success and a lot of work was accomplished during that 4-day session. They discussed several issues that were brought to their attention during the Reunion and worked on plans for the growth of the organization.  There are a lot of things to do and the Exec team is working to implement several new initiatives.  The Exec team travels at their own expense to the all boards meetings.  They are committed to the management and success of the NABMW.  We thank them for serving.

NABMW ESTABLISHES A
BLACK MILITARY WOMEN’S
FOUNDATION
The Black Military Women’s Foundation was established in February 2005 to be an affiliate but separate entity of the National Association of Black Military Women.  The sole purpose of the foundation is to be the official “Fund Raiser” for the NABMW.  All members of the NABMW are automatic members of The Black Military Women’s Foundation.
While the NABMW focus on the mission of the organization, the BMW Foundation will focus on raising funds to support our missions and the different NABMW projects established to achieve our mission.  The foundation is a Not-for-Profit tax exempt organization and is responsible for developing the NABMW official fund raising plans and packets for solicitation to various government agencies, corporations, individuals, and other organizations.
We are at the next stage of growth in the NABMW.  In order to be successful in seeking out, recording and the telling the stories of Black Military Women, we need funds to support our projects.  But most of all we need your support.
We know in our membership there are NABMW members (family or friends) who have the expertise in financial management, grant work, planning, marketing, record keeping, Lawyering (attorneys), organizational structure and leadership.  This part of our work is critical.  We must have qualified and dedicated individuals.  We are calling out to members of the NABMW to be a part of these important next steps as we make progress and history.
For more information, please contact Gen (Ret) Rosetta Burke, NABMW President at  rburke005@nycap.rr.com or Beatrice Jones, V-President Operations at bendera@aol.com
Executive Board approves (new)
        NABMW Regional “Chapters”
During the past few years, there have been several requests from individuals wanting to establish NABMW chapters in their local areas.  Last Year the Executive Board asked Mrs Gladys Carter to develop a recommendation for the structure layout for NABMW Chapters and operational procedures for the establishment and management of these local Chapters.  Ms Carter submitted her proposal to the Executive Board.  After careful review and minor changes to the proposal, the Executive Board has approved the establishment of NABMW Regional “Chapters”.  They all agreed that local Chapters would help increase membership in the organization, strengthen our efforts in seeking out Black Military Women and help tell our history in local communities.
The Executive Board has asked Mrs Carter to make some revisions to her proposal and resubmit a final draft to the Executive Board by 15 June 2005.  The authorization to establish our new NABMW Regional Chapters will go into effect on 1 July 2005.  For more information, and guidelines, please contact your Regional Chairperson or  V-President for Operations Beatrice Jones at Email:  Bendera@aol.com.

VACANT REGIONAL
CHAIRPERSON POSITIONS
Sister Soldiers,
Due to various reasons, (most of all our growth and the opening of new positions within the organization) we have several Regional Chairperson positions that need to be filled: South-west, North-Central, Central-East and South-Central.   There are a lot of our ladies who are holding more than one position in the organization.  We would like every member to have a chance to hold a position in your region and national level.  Please help us grow.  We need your knowledge and support.  If you would like to serve as one of our leaders, please contact Gen (Ret) Rosetta Burke at  rburke005@nycap.rr.com or Beatrice Jones, V-President Operations at  bendera@aol.com
